The Olympics only roll around every four years, not counting disruptions from worldwide pandemics.
If you missed this four-year window to represent your country in a worldwide competition, testing your skills against the world’s best student-athletes, here’s an opportunity for you. USA Team is looking for a shooting team or organized group of student-athletes to represent the United States at the upcoming 2021 Summer FISU World University Games. Staged every two years in a different city, the summer edition of the FISU World University Games is a celebration of international university sports and culture. With over 3000 of the world’s best summer sport student-athletes from more than 60 nations, the FISU World University Games is among the world’s largest summer multi-sports events.
The 2021 Summer World University Games will be held in Chengdu, China, June 26-July 7, 2022. Moved to 2022 due to COVID-19 while retaining the 2021 branding, the event was originally scheduled for August 2021 and marks the 31st edition of the Summer World University Games. The Games expect to have over 11,000 athletes from over 170 countries competing in 18 different sports.
Similar to the Olympics, the 11,000 participating athletes compete in a wide variety of sporting events including everything from archery to wushu and all in between — diving, water polo, gymnastics, judo, rowing, track and field, and yes, shooting.
The shooting team, covering women’s, men’s, and mixed team air rifle and air pistol competitions, is limited to a maximum of 21 competitors for Team USA. The breakdown looks like this:
Rifle Discipline
‐Men event: a maximum of 5 athletes but no more than 3 in each event
‐Women event: a maximum of 5 athletes but no more than 3 in each event
‐Mixed team: a maximum of 1 pair which is part the quota of individual events
